Solar Technology’s most popular product range is the FreeLoader Series, a collection of solar powered gadget chargers.

The Challenge:

To launch the FreeLoader Series and gain widespread coverage that would reflect the versatility of a product that appeals to anyone with a gadget. The PR Room would target a wide range of sectors to get maximum coverage for the brand, and really push the solar powered aspect to take advantage of the trend for an eco-friendly approach.

Our Work:

Our PR campaign for Solar Technology involved the following:

  • A number of topical opinion piece articles were drafted and pitched to the specialist mobile media, outlining how and why Solar Charging Devices were essential for anyone travelling with gadgets.
  • A campaign was developed to promote Solar Technology and the FreeLoader series to potential retailers.
  • FreeLoader review samples were sent to a number of influential journalists writing for: Travel, In-flight, Gadget, IT, Mobile Phone, Technology, Digital Photography, Outdoor Pursuits, Boating and Caravanning, Sports, and Men’s and Women’s Lifestyle media.
  • Celebrity travelers and explorers were researched and identified as potential brand ambassadors for the FreeLoader Series. Samples were provided for use on adventures where there wasn’t any access to charging power.
  • Media outlets looking at seasonal and newsworthy features such as travel accessories, eco-friendly gadgets and Christmas gifts were identified – the FreeLoader Series suited the stocking filler category perfectly!

PR Results Achieved:

As a result of our PR Campaign for Solar Technology, we achieved the following:

  • 90 positive and on-message clippings in Tier 1 media published about the freeLoader Series within the first month of launch.
  • The campaign resulted in substantial coverage on a regular basis for Solar Technology, with positive coverage appearing in titles such as; The Sunday Times, Daily Express, Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Metro, The Independent, as well as on leading broadcast media such as BBC Click and The Gadget Show.
  • In a drive to raise product placement and awareness, celebrity adventurer Ben Fogle and his team were provided with the FreeLoader and its supercharging pack to power their personal gadgets during their ‘On Thin Ice’ expedition, filmed and aired by the BBC. Ben also went on to endorse the FreeLoader in his very own column in Sky Magazine.
  • Award winning global explorer and public speaker, Antony Jinman, founder of ‘Education Through Expeditions’, was gifted Solar Technology equipment and consequently provided a step-by-step case study of its everyday use during an expedition.
  • Solar Technology was thrilled with the coverage that The PR Room had achieved and was able to quantify how the PR results transformed into sales. Solar Technology went on to work with The PR Room on many product launch projects.
